The Silva 55-6400/360 MS Mils Compass is an upgraded replacement for the NSN'd Silva 54/6400B Compass. It features improved readability and distinct markings, making it one of the most versatile compasses globally, particularly for artillery, target acquisition, and command posts. The 55 combines an optical precision sighting system with the SILVA 1-2-3 SYSTEM compass in a single unit, ensuring unmatched precision and versatility in the field. Bearings can be measured with an accuracy of within half a degree.

The compass includes a luminous graduation ring and markings, allowing for use in the dark after being activated by daylight or a flashlight, providing up to four hours of illumination. It has a 6400 mils graduation ring and both 6400 mils and 360 degrees on the sighting scale. Additionally, it comes with a Slope Card to assess avalanche risk and evaluate the difficulty of your journey. The Scale Lanyard, featuring 1:25 and 1:50 scales, is soft, flexible, and can be easily placed directly onto your map for route planning.
