What size float do I need for my anchor weight?

The buoyancy of the float must match or exceed the combined weight of your anchor and rode (chain or rope). For instance, a 12-inch (approximately 300mm) round float typically provides around 35 pounds (15.9 kg) of buoyancy, while a 15-inch (approximately 380mm) float offers about 65 pounds (29.5 kg). Selecting the appropriate size ensures effective anchor retrieval and prevents the float from submerging.

What’s the difference between float shapes?

The shape of a float influences its stability and performance in various water conditions. Round and beehive-shaped floats offer greater stability and are less prone to submerging, making them ideal for rough waters. Football-shaped floats, being more streamlined, are suitable for calmer waters or as markers. Choosing the right shape ensures optimal performance for your specific boating environment.
