The bracket decides where a light sits and whether it stays there. Our range covers tube clamps from 44.5mm to 77mm, bullbar and roof rack mounts, number plate bars and pillar mounts, from Roadvision, LED Autolamps, Bushranger, JW Speaker, Ignite and Front Runner.
Choosing a light bracket
Start with what you are bolting to. A tube clamp grips a bullbar loop or a roof rack bar and is sized by the tube's outside diameter, so measure it before ordering. Ours run 44.5 to 48mm, 49 to 51mm, 60 to 63.5mm and 75 to 77mm. A clamp that is close but not right will either crush the tube or work loose on corrugations.
Flat mounts bolt to a bullbar tab, a bar top or a pillar. Extended versions push the light forward of the bar so the beam clears the bullbar itself, which matters on a hoop bar where the loop sits in front of the light. Check the bolt pattern on your light before matching a bracket to it.
Mounting that survives corrugations
- Vibration is what kills lights, not water. A bracket with any flex will shake the LED driver apart over a few thousand kilometres of dirt.
- Use thread lock on every fastener. Nyloc nuts on their own back off under sustained vibration.
- Do not mount to the number plate alone. Use a proper number plate bar that spreads load into the bar behind it.
- Leave room for the loom. A cable pinched between bracket and bar will chafe through and short.
- Check legal height and width for driving lights before settling on a position.
What else you might need
Driving lights: match the bracket's bolt pattern to the light you are fitting, not the other way around.
LED light bars: longer bars need two or more mounts to stop the bar twisting on rough ground.
Wiring kits: a relay, fuse and switch sized for the light's current draw, so the loom is not the weak point.
Bullbars: the mounting surface most driving lights end up on.
Frequently asked questions
How do I know what size tube clamp I need?
Measure the outside diameter of the tube you are clamping to, not the inside. Match it to the bracket's stated range, for example 49 to 51mm for a 2in bar.
Can I mount a light bar to the roof rack?
Yes, with a bracket rated for it. Roof mounting puts the light above the windscreen, which reduces glare off the bonnet but can reflect off a dusty bonnet edge. Check your rack's load rating.
Will a bracket fit any brand of light?
No. Bolt patterns and stem diameters vary between brands. Check the light's mounting spec against the bracket before ordering.
Do I need an extended bracket?
On a hoop bullbar, yes, if the hoop sits in front of the light. An extended bracket moves the light forward so the beam is not clipped by the bar.
