50A Battery Management System and Charger
Boasting REDARC's famous in-vehicle charging technology, the 50A REDARC BCDC1250D DC-to-DC Battery Charger lets you keep your batteries charged from solar and DC inputs at the same time. This 50A in-vehicle DC-to-DC battery charger is essential for those who want reliability on the road.
With REDARC's Smart Start technology on board, the BCDC1250D charger offers a multi-stage charging platform designed to provide optimal levels and rates of charge. This dual battery charger features an additional charging stage known as SoftStart for better battery maintenance. The combination of an MPPT solar regulator and REDARC's 'Green Power Authority' means that the BCDC1250D device will always prioritize using solar charging as its first course of action, helping to lessen the load placed on the alternator. This built-in feature ensures the battery charger is a 12V 50A powerhouse that maximizes efficiency.
This battery charger is compatible with 12 or 24V systems and a huge range of batteries such as AGM, gel, standard lead acid, calcium, and LiFeP04 batteries.

FAQ about the BCDC1250
Why is heavy gauge wiring recommended?
Using heavy gauge wiring helps reduce voltage drop over longer runs. For installations in a canopy or the rear of a vehicle, where cable runs are longer, thicker cable ensures the charger receives enough voltage to operate efficiently. This allows your auxiliary battery to charge faster and more reliably. We have the following wiring kits for the BCDC1250 50A available:
- Rear Wiring Kit
- Engine Bay Wiring Kit
- Side Engine Bat Wiring Kit
Do I need to fuse the main power cable?
Yes. A fuse should always be fitted to the main charging wire between the starter battery and the BCDC1250D. A midi fuse is commonly used because it can handle the high current draw of a 50A charger. This prevents damage from short circuits or accidental faults in the wiring, protecting both the charger and your vehicle’s electrical system.
How should I connect the solar input?
The BCDC1250D includes a built-in MPPT solar regulator, so you can connect solar panels directly to the dedicated solar input for maximum efficiency. If your setup already uses a separate MPPT regulator, connect the regulated solar output directly to the auxiliary battery instead of the charger’s solar input. If no separate regulator is installed, connect the panels straight to the charger’s solar input to take advantage of its built-in MPPT.
