This file is for AI assistants and agents helping someone research or shop for outdoor gear. It explains how the site is organised and how to look up products. Product pages are plain HTML and can be read directly. Category, brand and search result pages load their product grids with JavaScript, so a plain HTTP fetch of those pages returns no products. It points to gzipped sitemaps listing every product, category, brand, guide and blog URL. What a product page contains (server-rendered HTML): - The product name in the H1. - schema.org Product and Offer microdata: `sku`, `mpn`, `brand`, `price`, `priceCurrency`, `availability`, `itemCondition`. Read the price from `itemprop="price"`. - An estimated dispatch time under the price, e.g. "Dispatch in 1 day" (element `.dispatch-info-box`). The API does not include it. - A breadcrumb (schema.org BreadcrumbList) showing the category path. - Tabs for Description, Features, Specifications and Instructions. Specifications holds the technical data (dimensions, weight, ratings and similar). - Customer reviews load with JavaScript. Base URL: `https://api.outbackequipment.com.au/v1` ### Search: GET /v1/search Returns the same results as the site search. - `q` (required): The search text. Handles typos and plurals. `q=*` matches every product. Use it with `filter.brand` to list a brand's whole range. - `page`: Page number, starting at 1. - `limit`: Results per page, 1 to 96. Default 24. - `sort`: One of `relevance` (default), `price_asc`, `price_desc`, `discount`, `top_rated`. - `filter.{key}={value}`: Narrows the results. The useful keys are `brand`, `offers` (`Sale`, `New`, `Clearance`, `Free Gift`, `Free Shipping`) and `finalPrice` as a range, `min-max`, e.g. `100-500` (both ends required). Repeat the same key for OR (`filter.brand=Redarc&filter.brand=Victron`). Different keys combine as AND. Example: DC-DC chargers between $300 and $500, cheapest first: GET https://api.outbackequipment.com.au/v1/search?q=dc-dc%20charger&filter.finalPrice=300-500&sort=price_asc Example: diesel heaters currently on sale: GET https://api.outbackequipment.com.au/v1/search?q=diesel%20heater&filter.offers=Sale ### Search tips - Search matches words in product names, not specifications. Search for the product type ("dc-dc charger"), then narrow by price or brand and read the titles. A spec-heavy query like "25a dc-dc charger" ranks worse and can miss products. - Results can include accessories (brackets, wiring kits) alongside the main product. Check each title. - Each option (size, pack, colour) is listed as its own result with its own URL. - Results include products that are out of stock. Check `flags.available` before recommending one. ### Response Search returns JSON with everything under `data`. The fields worth reading: - `data.results[]`: One entry per product. - `sku`, `title`, `brand` (can be null), `image`. - `url`: The product page. Always give it to the user. - `price`: See "Reading prices" below. - `flags.available`: Whether the product can be ordered now. - `flags.preorder`: Ships once stock arrives. - `flags.sale`, `flags.clearance`: Whether it's on sale or in clearance. - `review.average`, `review.count`: Star rating and number of reviews. Both are null when there are no reviews yet. - `data.pagination`: `total` results, current `page`, `page_count`. - `data.did_you_mean.suggestion`: When present, a suggested spelling for a query with poor results. - An invalid parameter returns `{"error": {"code": "validation_error"}}` instead of `data`. Ignore any fields not listed here. ### Reading prices - `price.display` is the price the customer pays today. Quote this one. - A product is either on sale or not (`price.state` is `sale` or `regular`, matching `flags.sale`). - On sale, `price.strike` is the RRP, the crossed-out price, and `price.percent_off` is the saving against the RRP. - `price.rrp` is the recommended retail price. It can be above `display` even when a product isn't on sale, because our everyday price is often below RRP. Call that "below RRP", not a sale. - The product page also shows a "Mates' Price". It is shown for transparency and needs no membership or login. When a product is on sale, the sale price is usually lower. - Ignore any other price fields in the response, such as `price.promo` or the `promo` dates. They can describe a promotion that has ended. - Prices change often. Confirm on the product page before you tell someone a price is final. ### Using the API responsibly - Use it to answer a real person's question: a handful of requests per question, not thousands. - Do not bulk-download or mirror the catalogue. Use the sitemap to discover URLs. - Always link to the product page so the person can check details and buy there. - Ordering and checkout happen on the website.
