Weight matters more on a Jimny
A Jimny has a kerb weight around 1,110kg and a payload near 350kg. A steel bar can take a meaningful bite out of that before you have loaded a fridge, a spare or a roof rack. Two things follow from it:
- Check payload before you fit. Bar weight sits ahead of the front axle, where it has the most effect on handling and on front spring sag.
- A bumper replacement adds less. The EFS Stockman replaces the factory bumper rather than mounting in front of it, which keeps both weight and overhang down. On a short-wheelbase Jimny that also protects the approach angle.
- Consider a spring upgrade if the nose sits low once the bar is on.
- Airbag compatibility. A bar cut for your build range is engineered to work with the frontal sensing.
What else you might need
Winches: check the bar's winch capacity, and remember a winch adds another 30kg or so to the nose.
Driving lights: the bullbar is the usual mounting point.
Light brackets: tube clamps sized to the loop diameter on your bar.
Bullbar accessories: aerial mounts, tow points and fascia panels.
Frequently asked questions
Will a pre-2019 Jimny bar fit the new shape?
No. The body changed for the 11/2018 onwards model and the mounting points moved with it. Check the build month, not the model year, because late 2018 builds fall either side of the change.
How much weight does a bullbar add to a Jimny?
Enough to matter on a vehicle with about 350kg of payload. A bumper replacement bar adds less than a full bar. Weigh up what else you plan to carry before choosing.
Does the Grand Vitara bar fit every model?
No. Within the 08/2005 to 2015 range it suits the 2012 diesel manual only. Check your driveline against the listing.
Will fitting a bar affect the airbags?
A bar engineered for your build range is designed to let the frontal sensors read an impact. Fitting one cut for a different range can change that.
